Ruth is a versatile new generation transformational leader with a distinct track record in implementing winning strategies and delivering value that surpasses stakeholder expectations. She has over 20 years leadership experience spanning across various economic sectors notably retail, hospitality, banking and insurance. Ruth is the Managing Director for First Mutual Life Assurance Company (Private) Limited, the second largest insurance entity in Zimbabwe.
Ruth has achieved remarkable success, driving sustainable business growth in an increasingly competitive and saturated insurance market. She presided over a threefold growth in revenue and business volumes over a 6-year period in a challenging economic environment. As a distinguished business leader and marketing expert, she initiated and managed various insurance schemes of national significance thereby contributing to the increased participation in the formal financial systems of previously excluded population segments. She also presided over major transformational strategic initiatives that successfully championed First Mutual Life’s expansion into new market segments which later resulted in the creation of standalone businesses. As a result of her accumulated exposure to the international business terrain, she has toured a number of developed and emerging markets, presented key note papers at major conferences in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas,
Ruth has also contributed immensely to industry discourse on the need to expand the reach of insurance products to cover previously excluded or marginalised communities through affordable, innovative micro insurance products and solutions. Her thought leadership on micro insurance also contributed to the national financial inclusion agenda leading to various policy initiatives aimed at delivering competitive insurance solutions to hitherto excluded sections of the population.
As past president, Ruth successfully led the Life Offices Association and the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe into notable stakeholders on national financial policy formulation and development. Her commitment to duty and outstanding contribution to the national policy development agenda led to her appointment to various boards namely the Mosi o-a Tunya Development Company (Private) Limited, where she is the the Chairperson, the African Insurance Organisation (AIO), where she also serves on the Micro Insurance Committee, Pearl Properties (2006) Limited (a ZSE Listed company) and Netone (Private) Limited.
Ruth Ncube is a holder of an MBA degree with Nottingham Trent University, UK. She is also a graduate with the Institute of Marketing Management (RSA), leadership certificates, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and several diplomas in sales and marketing United Kingdom.
